Try a Specific AT Solution at our Open House Event
Open Resource is an opportunity for individuals to drop in to the Center with questions on all aspects of computer based assistive technology.
Open Resource is often a first step for people with disabilities to get a short presentation on potential AT solutions. Although assistive technology (AT) is much more common now than when we first opened our doors, it is still difficult to find. None of the large computer stores carry AT hardware or software and sales clerks have very little knowledge of this specialized area.
Our Open Resource program allows people (often on limited incomes) to come to our lab and try out the hardware and software that will help them succeed in school and the workforce. Open Resource is not an assessment, and no AT recommendations are made - but it is a way of seeing some possibilities, a place to begin the exploration of assistive technology solutions.
Assistive technology can be costly and complicated. Giving people a chance to try the equipment before they buy it, as well as having the opportunity to discuss options with our AT Specialists, has made Open Resource the single most popular program the Center has developed, an opportunity for hands-on trials of various AT solutions.
Open Resource is held on Wednesdays from 3 PM to 5 PM. Our upcoming Open Resource dates are May 14th and 28th, June 11th and 25th.
