The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, founded in 1979, is a leading national civil rights law and policy center directed by individuals with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities.
Parents Helping Parentsexternal link
Located in Santa Clara County, Parents Helping Parents is a parent-directed family resource center serving children with special needs, their families, and the professionals who serve them. Children with special needs are simply children that have a need for special services due to illness, accident, conditions of birth, learning differences or family stress.
Protection and Advocacy External Link
The Protection and Advocacy for Persons with developmental Disabilities (PADD) Program was created by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights (DD) Act of 1975. P&As are required by the Act to pursue legal, administrative and other appropriate remedies to protect and advocates for the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities under all applicable federal and state laws.
Through The Looking Glass External Link
Through the Looking Glass (TLG) is a community non-profit organization which emerged from the disability independent living movement in 1982. TLG has pioneered clinical and supportive services, training and research serving families in which one or more members--whether parent or child--has a disability or medical issue. TLG's mission has been to create, demonstrate and encourage resources and model early intervention services which are non-pathological and empowering.
