In Depth Evaluation of Your Student’s Computer Needs

An AT assessment is a comprehensive review of a student's assistive technology needs and how assistive technology (and computer use) fits into the student's educational plan.

As part of the assessment process, a CforAT Educational Specialist will:

  • Review the student's previous assessments, medical and educational history, IEPs and current day program and home environments

  • Conduct interviews with teachers, aides, the student's family, and/or other service providers, to determine what assistive technology and other devices and strategies have been used or attempted.

  • Work with the student to assess various assistive technology solutions (hardware, software and strategies to determine those that are most appropriate for the student.

The final step in the process is the creation of an assessment report which details the assessment process and makes recommendations to the IEP team. This comprehensive document becomes part of the child's IEP, and the Educational Specialist may attend IEP meetings to assist with implementation of the assistive technology strategies.

You can download the Assessment Request Form. We also will need a signed release form so we can review your child's IEP and other documents. You can download the Release Form.
